The site is within the Woodhouse Hanover Square conservation area. Development replaces a derelict Sunday School whilst completing the southern edge of the square.

CRL were commissioned to review a scheme which had already been approved by planning. CRLs brief was to refine the internal layout and rationalise the elevations to allow the scheme to be built within budget. The revised design whilst remaining faithful to the original scheme in scale and massing provides a significant improvement to the quality of the internal spaces and the appearance of the building in its historic context.

The final scheme consists of 21 generously sized one bedroom student apartments over three floors with basement car parking. The scheme continues the original Victorian terrace to the front and introduces a contrasting modern block to the rear.

The front elevation was designed to replicate the finest detail of the neighbouring Victorian houses. This included detailing the decorative stone, the brick archways and sash windows. The contrasting rear is simple curtain wall glazing and purple brick panels with glazed inserts.

The project was shortlisted for the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2012.
